The Artist

Portrait of Anurati Gupta

I am a painter with a deep love for colour and its ability to transform what we see.

My practice has grown from a fascination with recreating the visible world on canvas to exploring the inner world that emerges when colour, form, and energy begin to shift beyond the familiar.

I am drawn to the constant movement between one state and another, where nothing remains entirely fixed.

I currently explore these ideas through luminous floral and atmospheric compositions, allowing colour, movement, and form to become expressions of changing states.

Creative Philosophy

The most meaningful artwork is not always meant to be understood.
Sometimes, it simply asks to be felt.

Influences

My work is influenced by the way colour exists in the world around us, but also by what happens beyond what we can immediately see. I am drawn to changing light, shifting colours, natural forms, and the way different colours alter one another.

The ideas of Alan Watts have also shaped how I think about change and relationships between forms.

The Path Here

Before returning to painting, I spent many years working in technology, building products and solving complex problems. That experience taught me to be patient with the process, pay attention to detail, and understand how small decisions can shape the whole.

As I returned to a more focused art practice, I undertook six months of formal study at Chitrakala Parishath in Bengaluru. The experience strengthened my understanding of colour, composition, observation, and the discipline of working through a painting.

My work in technology shaped how I approach making, but painting is where my creative voice has found its place.
